Bathurst special is Indeed identified by 81837 in HK , HT & HG although HG never made it to Bathurst -of course..
However ....
Unlike the HK 81837 which was 327 & MANUAL trans only.
NEW For HT [ & HG ] was an Optional AUTOMATIC Trans behind the 350 -the venerable- 2 speed Power glide trans-
See pic - selector shows L & D [ low + drive ]
The HT Bathurst Monaros actually raced were 4 speed MANUAL only - Yes The shannons car is a manual .
So it pays to remember -for us forty years later that Not - all 81837 were 'Bathurst' Models.
It is known that some plants differentiated an Auto from a man on the plate [ Think Adelaide or Brisbane ? ]
& The 350 engines also had a *Code* differentiating auto / man; as the auto was lower compression.
Thats all I know - err ask me about 186's' ...
