NASCAR and Chevrolet are investigating a fire inside the pace car during Saturday night's exhibition race at Daytona International Speedway.

Black smoke began billowing from the Chevrolet SS right before the third segment of the Sprint Unlimited race.

Flames could be seen shooting from the rear of the car as it sat on the apron and two NASCAR officials jumped out.
A spokeswoman for Chevrolet said the manufacturer was working with NASCAR to determine what caused the fire, although an auxiliary battery pack which powers the race lights is thought to be the cause of the inferno. The Chevrolet SS is made in Australia by Holden and is essentially a replica of the Commodore, with Chevy badges and trimmings.

Well.... What can one say!

At least it wasn't any fault of Holden's.

Cheers,

Mark. :D

Kinda poetic really, just like the Aussie car industry......and a Cheech and Chong movie ;)

Reading comments on US auto blog sites, the Chevy SS isn't selling that well in any case, they think it overpriced, styling is probably a little to subtle as well...... Looks like the banter that we'll have a US built Commodore on our shores after Holden dies is just that...rhetoric. Get to love that Malibu or Captiva or whatever other FWD thing comes out of China & Korea.

I guess I'll be buying Japanese AWD from now on..
No doubt about it I gotta get another hat!Image
